Register to be an Official

If you are interested more in becoming part of the Colorado Ice Hockey Referee Association (CIHRA) and a USAHockey Official let us know.
We are here to answer any questions you might have becoming an USAHockey Referee, point you to USAhockey requirements, and give you an understanding of what CIHRA provides their members.

New Officials

The Annual registration period for the current season begins May 1, 2026, and ends on December 31, 2026. (All officials must register by November 20, 2026, complete by December 31, 2026) To be a CIHRA Official you must be 13 years of age or older. For new officials complete the three steps below in chronological order. Each step must be completed before you can start the next. **Returning officials see below.
  • 1. USA Hockey New Officials Registration (Should complete all requirements prior to November 1, 2026) (USA Hockey Registration FAQs)
  • Become a member and register as an Ice Official
  • Attend an officials Zoom Seminar
  • Complete online education modules and playing rules exercise
  • Safe Sport Training (18 and Older)
  • If directed, complete an independent background check.
  • Receive your crest and referee card from USAH
  • CAHA In-Person Session
  • **All Level 1's officiating in Colorado must complete Zoom Seminar and online modules prior to attending a CAHA mandated classroom and on-ice session. Please email Rob Perry for more details.
  • 2. Register with CIHRA
  • When provided by USA Hockey, New officials must email .jpg or.pdf of referee card to CIHRA Registrar Fred Faulkner (cihraregistrar@gmail.com)
  • Email the following information to Fred Faulker, Registrar (W-9, Bank ABA Number, Account Number, Independent Contractor Agreement).
  • Download the W 9 IRA Tax Form
  • Download the Independent Contractor Form
  • Request a Horizon Web Ref Account
  • Horizon Web Ref is the online application CIHRA uses to schedule games for its Officials while providing the official the ability to control their availability and preferences.

  • 3. Create a HorizonWebRef Account
  • Set up “New User Registration” (A temporary password will be sent to your email account.
  • You will be asked for an association # (205162)
  • Set your availability to work games – keep this updated!
  • Set up Arena preferences and Personal Profile
  • Email/call schedulers telling them of your interest to work games – sell yourself

4. To get paid

Returning Officials

  • Annual dues are $10 and will be collected from a payroll deduction once you have officiated games.
  • Anyone who has not paid CIHRA dues and/or who have not attended a seminar will have their Horizon account deactivated after December 1.
